Stop Snoring Exercise

If you are determined to end the condition, here is a stop snoring exercise you will like. The very structure of some people’s mouth is one of the factors behind snoring. This is especially true of the open mouth breathers, as normally we breathe while sleeping through our mouths.

Sleep disturbances can be caused by snoring, not only to the one who snores, but to those around him or her as well. There is an alternative to buying devices which may or may not work to treat snoring, an option which costs nothing but may help change the very structure of the snorer’s mouth through certain strengthening exercises.

Those whose mouth structure causes them to snore may attribute it to one of many causes. The problem may be the result of having a soft palate. The palate forms the roof of your mouth and is made of soft muscle tissue. If, while asleep, the air which passes over it causes vibrations, the palate is too soft. Or the person who snores may have narrow airways which cause the problem.

Adenoids or swollen tonsils in the back of the troat may narrow the airways and encourage vibration. Once again, snoring is the result of the air vibrating as it passes through these airways. Another factor which may well play a part in the formation of the mouth structure of a snorer is their tongue. Then there is the sort of vibration which causes snoring which may be the result of a tongue not tightly enough attached to the mandible bone.

Other strengthening exercises include those that singers use to strengthen their voices. Being sure to hold each of the notes for three seconds at least, sing “la la la” very loudly (don’t worry, it doesn’t have to sound good to work;).

Your throat and soft palate will actually be strengthened if you perform this exercise five times a day because the vibrations caused by air passing through those once weak spots will lessen during sleep. You may look silly doing so, but you can strengthen your tongue by sticking it out as far as possible, holding that pose for a few seconds, then relaxing.

Next try to touch your nose then your chin with your tongue and again hold the position for a few seconds for the best results. This stop snoring exercise should then be repeated ten times each day. Another thing you can try is to exercise your lower jaw. The way to do this is to push your lower jaw out as far as you possibly can for a count of ten. After you have relaxed your jar back to its former position, keep it closed with your hands as you try at the same time to open it. This exercise also requires a count of ten before you repeat it for best results. In the efforts made to stop snoring, it has been discovered that playing a woodwind instrument might also help.

Of coure, being overweight or out of shape due to lack of exercise may worsen the snoring problem. Obesity, especially, is a big contributor to snoring. It is the extra fatty tissue around the neck which adds pressure to the diaphragm and can partly block the airways which causes those overweight to snore. As regular exercise benefits your health, so does it aid in reducing your snoring.
